Henry Wadsworth Longfellows „Evangeline“<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ein kurzer Zwischenruf, weil ich gerade auf youtube \u00fcber ein entsprechendes Video gestolpert bin! Im Englischen ist der Hexameter ja nie so richtig heimisch geworden, aber „Evangeline“ ist durchaus ein Werk von Rang. Hier der Link zum Video:<\/p>\n

Und hier der gesprochene Text, es sind die ersten Verse des Epos, die Einleitung also:<\/p>\n

This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks,
\nBearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight,
\nStand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic,
\nStand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
\nLoud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean
\nSpeaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest.<\/p>\n

This is the forest primeval; but where are the hearts that beneath it
\nLeaped like the roe, when he hears in the woodland the voice of the huntsman?
\nWhere is the thatch-roofed village, the home of Acadian farmers,
\nMen whose lives glided on like rivers that water the woodlands,
\nDarkened by shadows of earth, but reflecting an image of heaven?
\nWaste are those pleasant farms, and the farmers forever departed!
\nScattered like dust and leaves, when the mighty blasts of October
\nSeize them, and whirl them aloft, and sprinkle them far o’er the ocean
\nNaught but tradition remains of the beautiful village of Grand-Pr\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Ye who believe in affection that hopes, and endures, and is patient,
\nYe who believe in the beauty and strength of woman’s devotion,
\nList to the mournful tradition, still sung by the pines of the forest;
\nList to a Tale of Love in Acadie, home of the happy.<\/p>\n

Die nervige Hintergrund-Musik muss man sich einfach wegdenken; dann gef\u00e4llt mir die Lesung eigentlich ganz gut. Wenn der Vortragende auch zweimal eine zus\u00e4tzliche Silbe einschmuggelt, „home of\u00a0the<\/em> Acadian farmers“ und „strength of\u00a0a<\/em> woman’s devotion“ – und damit im ersten Fall sogar das Metrum bricht. Was man ihm ja auch beim „List“ der Schlusszeilen vorwerfen k\u00f6nnte … Aber sonst: Sch\u00f6n!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
